The room to your right boasts a sunny disposition arrayed in hues of red and green. Its companions are an ornate metal queen size bed, ceiling fan, closet and comfortable chairs. Continue down the hall into the open Dining Room which is centrally located and acts as a hub for the whole household to gather between the Living Room and Kitchen. This 2500 square foot log home is nestled in the saddle between two peaks on 40 wooded acres. Overlooking the Laurel Creek Valley and it is home to some of the best uncommercial kayaking in the state of West Virginia. You can step off the porch to go for a walk in the woods or down the gas well road. There are plenty of deer, turkeys and the occasional coyote can be heard in the evening. There is Fishing, Biking and Hiking all within a short distance from the cabin. On the expansive front porch you can enjoy the wind chimes as you sit and overlook the valley with a glass of wine. There is comfortable couch and chairs to relax on as well as a rocking chair. The spacious great room with its high ceilings and open floor plan is wonderful for a large group or a few couples. There is are two full size couches with a TV and DVD player. We also have a wonderful stand up Baldwin Piano, generally kept in tune! The full kitchen has plenty of workspace for anyone who would like to cook a gourmet meal. It is fully stocked with plenty of plates, serving items, glass and a fantastic dishwasher. There is also general kitchen items available, like salt,pepper,oil flour. We have two bedrooms on the first floor. The “Winter” room which has a Queen Bed facing east towards the sunrise has a large closet and dresser as well as a beautiful antique headboard. The “Summer Room” has a King Bed and overlooks the front porch and view of the valley it also has a large closet and dresser. The full bath with a tile tub and shower also includes a double sink vanity. The laundry room has a washer dryer and utility sink. The second floor has a loft with a recliner and is a great place to curl up with a book, if extra beds are needed this is the perfect spot for an air mattress. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The “Fall” Master Bedroom with its poster king bed and room darkening curtains is welcoming and wonderful for those who need a very quiet place to rest. There are two closets and a dresser as well as a TV . The second bedroom is our “Spring Room” and has bunk beds and a trundle bed so 3 can sleep comfortably in this room. With the brightly decorated curtains it’s a perfect room for the kids. As you come out of the house the back porch wraps around and we have steps which lead down to our outdoor fire pit which is the perfect place to relax with friends and family and enjoy the sunset or see the amazing stars. Many a nights have been spent with good friends and stories around the campfire and there is always a pleasant breeze on the ridge. In this remote area of West Virginia you are surrounded by amazing scenery and rivers. The Tygart River is just a short drive from the cabin and is known for its beautiful whitewater and swimming. There is Moats Falls which is a 16’ waterfall cascading over the rocks. We can arrange with advance notice private kayaking instruction or rafting trips for any type of group, the gentle float or the class V excitement there is something for everyone. There is a flat water section of river from Philippi to the town of Arden. From Arden to the Teter Creek bridge it becomes Class IV whitewater and you can paddle over the 16’ waterfall if the water level is right! There is also creekin’ available on Teter & Laurel Creek just moments from the house. The Tygart Lake State Park is another nearby attraction where boats and all types of lake recreation activities are available. You can rent a pontoon boat for the day and enjoy this scenic lake. Another local favorite is Audra State Park where the Middle Fork of the Tygart river flows though tight channels and larger boulders, amazing fishing, hiking and swimming await you at this park. The famous Blackwater falls is an attraction about an hour from the house. This cascading waterfall drops 65 feet! This area is also home to some of the most famous and amazing Mountain Biking in the state of West Virginia. Stop in the local bike shop, Blackwater Bikes to find out about the trails but you can spend hours riding and even visit an area called “A Ride to the Moon” where you can challenge yourself on some of the most technical riding in the east on the Moon Rocks. This is not for novice riders! However, there are also some great easy trails as well; check out the bike path in Parsons or the Allegheny Trail which goes for miles a nice paved trail for road riders. The cabin is about 45 minutes from Clarksburg, 2 hours from Charleston and about 1 1/2 hours from Morgantown. If you are flying in either of these airports would work for you. The Morning Glory Cottage was designed for my husband and I to just have a place to go and relax and enjoy nature. Teter Creek Lake is so beautiful, we decided to share our joy of being here. The cottage is 3 floors and when first entering you are entering the kitchen where you can sit at the Island and enjoy your meal or play a good game of scrabble with a friend. Located along the scenic and clean Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, six miles from downtown Elkins, FCW can be your mountain retreat for the weekend or the “home base” of a family getaway. Because the house is surrounded by forests and the river there is plenty of nature to enjoy, but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set out-of-sight humane traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay. The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there. The house is the original homeplace of the first official Mountaineer, William "Buckwheat" Jackson, 1936. The home illustrates the 70 + year history of the Mountaineer tradition with an informative pictorial display of the past Mountaineers. The home is centrally located within the quaint town of Kingwood, WV, approximately a 30 minute drive from Morgantown. The home has two guest rooms, both with full bathrooms. The home has a fully-equipped kitchen with granite counter-tops, and stainless steel appliances. The balance of the first floor consists of a formal dining room, living room and 1/2 bath. An expansive deck proceeds from the dining room. The covered front porch has a bench and two person porch swing.

This home was built in 1920 and has an abundance of character ! Original hardwood floors. High ceilings. Convenient location to downtown businesses, dining, shopping, college and attractions. House will be vacant.The 2nd floor is for storage purposes only and no one is permitted to venture upstairs. I love pets. However, you must clean up after your pets. A vacuum cleaner is available 100% of the time during your stay. Heavily shedding pets need to be cleaned up after. Also, the upstairs is off limits. Please do not allow your pets to wonder upstairs. Thanks for understanding! There arent many outlets in this house. Beware. No shoes in house. :) She is old with original hardwood floors. Lets preserve her! If I have to handle trash that has been left behind, there will be a $20 handling fee. Please BAG ALL trash and either take it with you or place in black trash can outside.
